27 August: Atlético states its position
Atlético Madrid's board publicly backed the club's refusal to negotiate Julián Álvarez's sale to Barcelona. The club statement distinguished that position from its willingness to conduct professional transfer negotiations in general. It did not announce a transfer to another club.
27 August, 17:24 CEST: a reported meeting
Cadena SER reported that Álvarez had met family, his representative and legal advisers the previous night for more than five hours to discuss his future. This was attributed reporting about a private discussion, not a statement of an agreed destination.
27 August, 19:36 UK time: Sky's Arsenal report
Sky Sports reported that a move to Arsenal was being considered but that Arsenal regarded completing it as unlikely. Sky described dialogue between Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta and Atlético Madrid chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín. The chief executive in that account represented Atlético, not Arsenal.
TV96 analysis: what these accounts establish
The club statement answers whether Atlético was prepared to negotiate with Barcelona. It does not establish an agreed Arsenal fee or the player's consent to move. The reported meeting concerns the player's deliberations; its length cannot measure how close two clubs were to an agreement.
Combining these accounts into a claim that a move was imminent would go beyond the evidence cited here. None of these sources announced a completed Arsenal transfer. A later outcome would require a separately dated club announcement or report.
